Veer Zaara, the last movie produced by Yash Chopra completes a decade
Directed and produced by the late Yash Chopra with a screenplay and script by Aditya Chopra, the iconic Veer Zaara has completed a decade at the box office today. The film is the last film that was produced by Yash Chopra and the second last one he directed after Jab Tak Hai Jaan in 2012. The film was also special to Yash Chopra as it was 7 years since he had directed a film after Dil To Pagal Hai.
The film starred Shah Rukh Khan, Preity Zinta, Rani Mukerji, Manoj Bajpayee, Kirron Kher, Divya Dutta and Anupam Kher with cameo appearances by Amitabh Bachchan and Hema Malini. the film contained music by Madan Mohan and Sanjeev Kohli and cinematography by Anil Mehta. Of course, it was produced under the banner Yash Raj Films.
A romantic drama, it was a commercial success, being made on a budget of Rs. 250 million, it generated Rs. 942.2 million.
A star-crossed romance set up against the rival nations India and Pakistan, it was created with the theme that love conquers all. The story followed a love story of Indian Air Force pilot, Squadron Leader Veer Pratap Singh, and a Pakistani woman from an influential family called Zaara Haayat Khan. The two meet in India where Zarra goes to scatter the ashes of her caretaker. The chance meeting leads to love, with obstacles like Zaara’s fiancé coming in the way. The latter puts Veer in jail, where he is stranded for 22 years until freed and reunited with Zaara with the help of a lawyer played by Rani Mukerji.
Receiving mostly positive reviews, the film bagged several awards like Most Popular Film award at the National Film Awards and the Filmfare Award for Best Film , among others.
