Telugu film stars like Chiranjeevi, Akkineni Nagarjuna, Mahesh Babu and Pawan Kalyan will come under one roof here Sunday for Memu Saitham, an entertainment initiative by the filmdom to raise funds for victims of the Hudhud cyclone.
While several stars have already lent financial support to the cause, this time they are uniting as an industry.
“We have all come forward for a noble cause and we urge the Telugu diaspora across the globe to come together and contribute to the rebuilding of Vishakhapatnam, which was devastated due to Hudhud cyclone,” Chiranjeevi said in a statement.
As part of the 12-hour telethon, numerous events such as celebrity cricket and kabbadi match, fashion show, skits and dance programmes have been planned.
The event, which will be aired live, will take place in Annapurna Studios. A lavish set has been erected especially for this occasion. Tickets to the event are already available online.
“This is a great opportunity for everybody in the industry to show their solidarity. We’ve also invited stars from Tamil industry to join us. The aim is to raise over Rs. 10 crore for Vishakhapatnam,” N.V. Prasad, president, Andhra Pradesh Film Chamber of Commerce told IANS.
Tamil film stars such as Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan and Suriya are also expected to be present at the event.
