The rise and rise of Anushka Sharma

Leaving aside her horrendous lip job, Anushka Sharma marks the success story of an everyday model turned into an A-list Bollywood actress. Previously, Sharma had no intentions of entering the film industry. However, in the year 2008, her debut film, Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi brought her instant fame, that probably even she did not expect. Cast opposite Shah Rukh Khan, her performance in the film was widely appreciated and was considered to be extraordinary for a newbie. The film was a major commercial success and went on to become the second-highest grossing Hindi film of 2008, after Ghajini.
As part of her three-film contract with Yash Raj Films, Sharma appeared in the crime-comedy Badmash Company in 2010, opposite Shahid Kapoor. She then portrayed the role of a wedding planner in the film Band Baaja Baaraat in the year 2010, thus marking the end of her contract. She was cast opposite debutant Ranveer Singh, who she was also rumoured to be dating for a while. Both films were moderate box-office hits.
In 2012, she played the supporting role in the romantic drama Jab Tak Hai Jaan, once again opposite Shah Rukh, for which she won the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress. Other films that Sharma starred in include Patiala House, Ladies vs Ricky Bahl and Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola. She also has various awards to her credit, including IIFA, Stardust and Filmfare awards.

Earlier rumoured and now confirmed, Sharma is in a relationship with Indian cricketer Virat Kohli. The 26-year old stand-in-skipper finally broke his silence and was straightforward in his response. He stated that it was obvious enough that they were dating and asked the media to respect their privacy.

The actress has four upcoming films. NH10, Bombay Velvet and Dil Dhadakne Do are set to release next year, whereas PK is releasing on the 19th of this month. Literally translating to tipsy/drunk, PK (Peekay), is an Indian comedy-drama film, directed by Rajkumar Hirani and produced by him and Vidhu Vinod Chopra. This is their fourth joint venture after the blockbuster hits Munna Bhai MBBS, Lage Raho Munna Bhai and 3 Idiots.

With Aamir Khan playing the male lead, this will be Sharma’s first film opposite him. Hirani has stated that the film will be a satire on “Gods and godmen” The film’s budget is around 85 crores. Due to the high expectations set by 3 Idiots, only time will tell if PK will break previously held records. Moreover, it is likely to be one of the most important films in Anushka Sharma’s career. Her new hairdo in the film looks quite appealing and offers a momentary distraction from her lips.
